Dr. Curry Koening to establish Vasculitis Center

We
announce the faculty appointment of Curry L. Koening, M.D., M.S.
to the Rheumatology Division at the University of Utah in Salt Lake
City. Dr. Koening plans to establish the first Vasculitis Center
in the Western United States. His goal is to provide comprehensive
medical care not only for patients with Churg-Strauss syndrome but
also for patients with other forms of vasculitis. The University
of Utah offers world class care in all subspecialty areas of medicine
including otolaryngology, pulmonary medicine, neurology, vascular
surgery, along with preeminent medical imaging.
Dr. Koening obtained his medical degree at Texas A&M Health
Science Center College of Medicine. He then completed his internal
medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship at the University
of Utah. He then did a vasculitis fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic
Center for Vasculitis Care and Research in Cleveland, Ohio. While
in Cleveland, he completed a Master in Science in the Clinical Research
Scholar’s Program at Case Western Reserve University. His
fellowship was supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
thru the Vasculitis Clinical Research Consortium (VCRC). His research
interests have been in the study of treatment outcomes in patients
afflicted with Wegener’s granulomatosis and the study of novel
therapeutic agents for the treatment of vasculitis. Dr. Koening’s
future goal is to partner with other Vasculitis Centers around the
country to help study experimental medications for the treatment
of vasculitis.
